The New York Dream Center is a church and non-profit based in New York City. Their mission is to serve New Yorkers from where they are to where God dreams for them to be. What does this look like? New York has a lot of people - and all of them have needs, whether they be material, emotional, or spiritual. Dream Center staff, members and volunteers serve each other and the communities in Chelsea and Harlem on a weekly basis by providing donations of necessary items, assisting individuals in cleaning and caring for their homes, and praying with individuals. They also host special events to celebrate with these communities, like the Thanksgiving Turkey Giveaway and the Christmas Toy Giveaway. The Dream Center has weekly worship on Sundays and community groups in homes throughout the week. Having been a part of the Dream Center for four years, I can say from personal experience that these are some of the most humble, genuine, and generous people I know. I've seen a church member who was unemployed and under enormous financial strain come every weekend to clean apartments and pass out donations to the Chelsea community. They've been there for me in practical ways like helping me move into and out of New York City, as well as in deeper ways like welcoming me in into a loving community. This is an example of what God's love looks like, and New York could use a lot more of it. Donations go towards keeping these services to the community going and towards keeping the Dream Center staff in the city they love.
