BENEFITING: Wings As Eagles Ministries Garland McAfee
We are nearing completion of Phase One: the construction of a 5,400 sq. ft. church/warehouse building which is a distribution center and a temporary sanctuary. We need just $20,000 more to complete the building and parking lot. This will provide a safe and warm place for the Lakota children and youth to gather on the reservation for activities, support, and encouragement. It will also serve as a central location for distribution food, clothing, and resources to the Lakota people.
Future Phases of the Dream Center include:
1. Bath and Bunk House: This will hold 50 volunteers, which is crucial for the ongoing ministries of the WAEM staff. It will also include the construction of an outdoor basketball and volleyball court, a playground, a running track, and a baseball diamond to encourage exercise in our Native youth.
2. Multi-purpose Building: This 50,000 sq.ft.building will hold the sanctuary, roller-skating rink, indoor, basketball court, virtual classroom, Lakota language lab, and internet cafe. It is important to provide a place for the children and youth to hang out but also to grow in their education. The building will be a safe place for children and teens to gather to socialize, to exercise and to study.
3. Green House: Because of the distance of travel and the difficulty of getting fresh fruits and vegetables, a greenhouse is planned. This will make available to the Native Americans fresh vegetables in a more conveniently located area. Because of the high incidence of diabetes, being able to acquire fresh vegetables will help to promote more healthy eating habits and to ensure more nutritious food. As one native man said to us recently, “finding a fresh crisp apple seems like finding a gold nugget.” With fresh foods over 100 miles in distance and most natives do not have vehicles this is a wonderful project that will bring blessings to many here on the reservation. Design and greenhouse construction would be a great opportunity also to train Native American men and women to grow in their own greenhouses, which is something WAEM is planning in the near future to install small greenhouses to those who are trained.
3. Shopping Center: A future mall that provides a sandwich shop, laundromat, and shopping galleries to promote entrepreneurship and economy on the reservation and support WAEm on the Pine Ridge Reservation.
The Dream Center of Pine Ridge is a project that is important for the Lakota people to be assisted with.
Please support this work to benefit the Lakota families.
