BENEFITING: DREAMFAR HIGH SCHOOL MARATHON
ORGANIZER: DREAMFAR HIGH SCHOOL MARATHON
EVENT: 2015 Boston Marathon
Hello friends and family!
I feel so privileged to have the opportunity to not only run the Boston Marathon this coming April, but also raise money for Dreamfar High School Marathon. Dreamfar is an amazing charity with a great mission. In their words, "The Mission of Dreamfar High School Marathon is to challenge high school students to reach their full potential - physically, socially, emotionally, and academically - through a mentor-supported marathon training program."
The other day, after I found out that I was accepted to run on behalf of Dreamfar and my employer, athenahealth, one of my co-workers asked me why I wanted to run the Boston Marathon. He said he thought most people had a main underlying reason for wanting to participate in such an undertaking. I imagine a lot of you might have the same question.
There are a few reasons I jumped at this opportunity. The first small one is that lately I have been challenging myself into becoming a more "serious" runner by signing up for and participating in road races. "Serious" is relative, because I was never a runner even in previous years. It's still new to me, but I'm really loving it. The second big reason is that I love doing things for charity. And Dreamfar's mission really appealed to me. Raising money to aid charity that helps teens achieve their potential physically and mentally was kind of a no-brainer for me. Even though I played sports year-round in high school, I definitely still felt disconnected to my peers socially and emotionally. If this program was available to me back then, I would have 100% taken part. And a third reason - I like to challenge myself. But this isn't a challenge I could ever imagine doing on my own. The fact that I have a team of co-workers, and Dreamfar's team of high schoolers and mentors, training with me is how I know I can complete this challenge.
If you help me with raising money for Dreamfar, I promise to train as hard as I can and cross that finish line on April 20th. And hopefully see some of you cheering along the route!
Thank you SO much for your support.
