Hello! We are the Drexel University Chapter of the Foundation for International Medical Relief of Children (FIMRC). As a Chapter of FIMRC, we help to serve as a voice in our community and play a part in upholding the mission of FIMRC. In March we sent a group of chapter members to the clinic in Limon Nicaragua, where adequate health care is lacking and children are dying from preventable or treatable diseases such as diarrhea, respiratory disease, and malnutrition. We were able to raise funds to stock the clinic's pharmacy, help support the community diabetic program, and begin the Drexel Emergency Fund.
While at the clinic, a young boy walked into a tree branch, which became stuck in his eye. The doctor informed the family that if he did not receive medical attention from a specialist at the hospital, he might lose his eyesight. Unfortunately the family did not have enough money to pay for the hospital, let alone the cab ride there. The chapter members stepped up and offered to use the funds we have raised here on crowdrise to pay for his medical care. The Drexel Emergency Fund will be used for those children who encounter medical emergencies and cannot afford to pay for adequate healthcare, just like that little boy. Your donations will go a long way in keeping the Drexel Emergency Fund running.
Thank you so much for taking the time to read about our mission and visiting our donation page!
Lots of thanks,
