Drive For Change
Organized by: Jacob Divine
Help us raise funds for two organizations that work for the conservation of our National Parks!
29 national parks, 2 months, 11,000 miles, 2 guys, and 1 incredible planet. This summer, Harrison and Jake (that’s us) are undertaking a trip to explore some of the most jaw-dropping areas in the North American national parks systems- and we’re taking you along for the ride.
Climate change is having a severe impact on our world, and we have no idea how to stop it. No, seriously, the two of us have absolutely no idea- one of us is an actor and the other is an anthropologist, and you’d have to look back a few years to find the last environmental sciences class we took. We simply don’t have the knowledge or the resources to conduct empirical research out in the field.
What we do have are a car, a National Parks pass, a passion for storytelling, and a summer.
In honor of the National Parks Foundation’s 100th birthday, we are embarking on the Drive for Change, during which we will tell the stories of 29 North American parks in order to raise awareness for these amazing places and the dangers they face. From June to August we will be traveling throughout the United States and Canada interviewing park officials and other experts about the effect that global climate change is having on our continent. Along the way, we’ll be documenting the parks firsthand through photo, film, writings, and personal accounts. This collection will be sent out to you over multiple social media streams so you can track us along the way and share in our experience! We want you along for the ride because it’s becoming increasingly clear that aspects of these parks will not last forever; rising global temperatures will not allow these parks to remain as they are in our lifetimes.
We need YOUR help in contributing towards these conservation efforts. Throughout our trip we will be collecting donations through a crowdfunding site for The National Parks Foundation and The Canadian Parks & Wilderness Society, two non-profit organizations that work to protect and maintain North America's Parks for generations to come. Through footage gathered, interviews compiled, and money raised, at our trip's end we hope to have made a tangible, positive impact on the current environmental emergency.
So, that’s our story: a journey to experience the best of what North America has to offer in order to ensure that future generations can create their own stories in these places. Please check out our blog, keep up with our journey, share our photos and videos, and if you can, contribute to our fundraiser! This year commemorates a century of the National Parks and we want to make sure they will last for many more centuries to come. That is why we Drive for Change.
