The number one cause of death for people age 21 and younger in America isn't drugs, guns, violence or even illness; it's motor vehicle collisions. We believe that can and should change.
Born out of frustration with this senseless loss of life, Jeff Payne created Driver's Edge in 2002. Our mission is simply this: to save lives by making our roads safer through comprehensive hands-on youth driver education. Traditional forms of driver's education tend to only teach a young driver how to pass a test - and don't impart the skills needed to help save a life in an emergency or evasive driving situation. That's where Driver's Edge comes in.
Through our innovative program taught by true driving professionals (professional performance driving instructors and current and former racing drivers), we start to give young drivers the skills they truly need to help keep themselves alive.
Our program is free because we believe that all young drivers should have access to this kind of education - not just those who might be able to afford it. We rely on individual donations, corporate partnerships and public grants to help fund our work. Since our inception, nearly 120,000 students and parents have attended a Driver's Edge event. And with your support, we hope to grow.
