As four Providence College students, we are enrolled in a class called Organizational Theory. We work in class and in teams as an organization and a structure similar to one that we would experience within a business. We study the complexities, structures, and systems within an organization and learn the best ways in which to motivate the people within the organization to their fullest potential.
Our two facilitators, Tom King and Amanda Kunevich, have challenged us this past semester in order to have us stop working in a traditional classroom setting, and rather work, as a class, in terms of a real organization in order to find success through our fundraising efforts. We are looking to break traditional barriers and find success in our class as a whole, in our teams, and as individuals, in order to come together in pursuit of a common mission, to plan structures, goals, strategies, and objectives in order to succeed in our fundraisers and in our class.
Our mission is to give voice and empowerment to children at risk. We have teamed up with Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Ocean State in order to help give all children the opportunities they deserve to succeed.
Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Ocean State is an amazing organization that serves nearly 500 boys and girls in Rhode Island. By matching children facing adversity with caring adult mentors, BBBSOS change their lives for the better, forever. We want to support BBBSOS because:
• They give kids at risk a guiding and nurturing hand
• Kids in the program have improved self-confidence
• Participants make better choices, think more positively about their future, resist peer pressure, stay in school, and avoid alcohol and drugs
We have been fortunate in our personal and academic lives to have the support and resources to work towards our dreams. With your help, we can brighten the future of a child who may not have these advantages.
