BENEFITING: TRAVIS MANION FOUNDATION
EVENT DATE: Oct 27, 2013
It's three days away to the Marine Corps Marathon (http://www.marinemarathon.com) in Washington D.C. That's right Forest, our nation's capital. It has been a long road of training amongst too much work. Facebook is full of messages of those running to honor Travis and Brendan. Many are visiting the best friends and roommates as they rest in Arlington. And in honor of their motto, "if not me, then who"; we run for those who have served, those who have fallen, and those that are left behind.
You may remember that I pledged on the National Day of Service, to train, run, and most importantly honor those who have given all in service of our country. I have the honor of running the marathon for Team Travis and the Travis Manion Foundation (http://www.travismanion.org). The Travis Manion Foundation "honors the fallen by challenging the living". Most of you know that I've run lots of marathons in the past. Clearly, I'm no stranger to challenges (I do live with Shane, remember). This time though, the challenge comes with meaning.
My grandfather, Don Davenport, passed away this spring. He spent most of his life in the military, in service to our country. Both he and my grandfather Reece were WWII veterans and are sadly no longer with us. I, like most of us in this generation, have friends, loved ones, and colleagues who have served our country both at home and overseas. There is no question that we as a country are failing to do our part to assist, care for, and support those who have served.
I am hoping you will help me help them. Please consider contributing to the miles I am running to honor those who are no longer with us and those who have given all in service of this country we call home.
Any amount helps. You can follow this link and donate to my challenge: http://www.crowdrise.com/drjdavenport/fundraiser/
Thank you! Now get off your butt and go for a run!
