BENEFITING: LOTUS FINE ARTS PRODUCTIONS INC
EVENT DATE: Jun 14, 2015
The 13th Annual Drums Along the Hudson will take place on Sunday, June 14th, 2015 from 11am to 6pm at Inwood Hill Park. This year will honor His Holiness, the 14th Dalai Lama, Tenzin Gyatso and celebrate his 80th birthday. As part of the celebration we will have Tibetan performers, food, crafts and participatory dances. We will also dedicate our newest collaboration with Tony Award winning choreographer George Faison's Universal Dance Experience: Erasing Boundaries to His Holiness for his birthday celebration. Mr. Faison was inspired by the book “Gandhi’s Outstanding Leadership” by P.A. Nazareth to create this work as an expression of how the arts are a beacon of harmony in times of turmoil. The piece brings together Contemporary, Okinawan, Flamenco, Native American, Hawaiian, Bharata Natyam and West African dancers. Also joining us on the main stage will be Japanese Taiko Drummers, Tibetan Performing Arts Institute Dancers, Kasibahagua Taino Cultural Society and more.
New this year we will introduce the World Market Tent where we will invite an array of arts and crafts vendors to share their work. Along with the traditional Native American Pow Wow led by the Thunderbird American Indian Dancers, Heyna Second Sons and Silver Cloud Drum Groups, crafts, food, storytelling and environmental tent, the day will be a fun-filled family adventure.
This event is FREE to the public and while we receive grant support, only a portion of the cost is covered. We count on supporters like you to help match these funds. Please consider making a contribution, taking an ad in the Commemorative program journal or donating an item for our raffle. We invite you to join us along with our hosts Sandra Bookman (ABC Eyewitness News), Maria Schiavocampo (ABC News Correspondent, Good Morning America), Patrick Riley (Pop Culture Expert/Blogger) and Honoree Tichina Arnold (Actress/Singer) to help make this a momentous and special occasion.
Thank you for your continued support,
Kamala Cesar, Artistic Director
