Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy is a horrible disease affecting more than 24,000 boys in the US alone and over 350,000 boys world wide. Currently there is No Known Treatment! Muscular dystrophies are a group of genetic disorders characterized by muscle weakness. Duchenne is the most common and severe form. The genetic defect that causes Duchenne was discovered in 1986 with the first medical therapy breakthrough study in 2012. These boys will not survive past their 20’s spending most of their years in a wheelchair as their muscles slowly deteriorate and die. The simplest of tasks become difficult, and in the later stages, heart and breathing muscles begin to fail.
Brandon Carpenter, a beloved member of the family, recently lost his battle with this horrible disease. He had issues with getting drugs and we would like to both raise funds to the cure of Duchenne muscular dystrophy and to raise awareness so that those afflicted can get treatment.
