BENEFITING: VH1 Save The Music Foundation
I represent a rural high school marching band program. This program along with the other three high school music & marching band programs have suffered under years of chipping away at funding. A few years ago this began to change for the program I represent. This band of typically 70-90 members have taken their creativity up a notch every year over the last 6 years. With the help of the director, sheer talent and creativity and the blood, sweat and many tears of parents and students, this band has achieved a level of performance and greatness unlike any other I have seen. This small rural band competed against several bands in a southeast regional competition, with their many props (also held together with wire ties and tape) and theatric creativity, they were awarded a national honor from the Cadets. Over time these instruments, which several are army surplus, have had to have their yearly duct-taping to hold them together and this can only last so long. This band is in desperate need of a re-fit. Thank you for taking the time to even read this. We understand that we are but 1 small drop in a nation of buckets where music programs are slipping away.
