Jackline comes from the Nanyuki area, and is the 2nd of 6 children in her family. Raised by a single mother who couldn’t support all her children, growing up Jackline was used to missing school because there was not enough food for her and her siblings. When her mother abandoned the family without any word as to where she had gone, Jackline was forced to fend for herself. She was luck to have one of her teachers take her under her wing, and she has been staying with her for the past six years.
Jackline’s childhood experience has given her a drive to make a difference with other struggling youth in Kenya. She would like to build a home for girls who have lost their mothers, and help them to receive an education, which she believes is “the key to everything.”
Jackline is composed, intelligent, and has a strong personality. Her determination to utilize her education to the fullest extent, in order to reach out to others who are experiencing what she had to go through to get here, is inspiring. She is a light that shines at Daraja, and a crucial addition to the family.
