Every day, we hear of horrific tragedies happening around the world—mass shootings, violent acts of bigotry, terrorist attacks and missing planes—and we look at the injustice and hopelessness in so many faces.
Similarly, the Society of St. Vincent de Paul Chicago has seen the injustices that occur in our own communities that affect our own neighbors every day since 1857—the homeless dying on the streets; families that are evicted because they cannot pay their rent; children who show up hungry to school; seniors suffering from illness because they cannot pay their medical bills. These are the faces of poverty and we NEED YOUR IMMEDIATE HELP to serve those in need this summer.
The Society of St. Vincent de Paul annually assists more than 848,000 people in Cook and Lake counties and we must respond to the staggering increase in requests from those in need of the very basics—food, shelter, clothing—due to the Illinois budget crisis. While we do not receive government funding, we are seeing an increase in clients sent to us from government-funded agencies that are closing their programs. While we rely solely on the generosity of our donors, we have seen a decrease in philanthropic giving due to economic uncertainty because of the upcoming elections and stock market lows. This is why WE NEED YOUR IMMEDIATE HELP.
The Society of St. Vincent de Paul Chicago is seeking to replenish our funds after successfully completing many new program initiatives over the last year which will help us expand our services in the coming years to help more people in need. Without additional support, we may have to cut funding to some of our most valuable programs, turning away the most vulnerable of our neighbors. Your donation can keep the air-conditioning on for a bed-ridden elderly person with pulmonary disease, help an unemployed individual who can't afford a place to sleep, or provide food for a family who recently lost their home in a fire.
The Society of St. Vincent de Paul is a 4-star rated organization on Charity Navigator. 90 cents of every dollar raised goes towards our programs and services.
We serve anyone in need, regardless of religious belief, economic circumstance, age or ethnic background.
