Have you read the beautiful story of Ramayan, one of the two great epics from India? In that, Ram represents the Good and Ravan, the ten-headed demon, symbolizes evil. Dushahra is the celebration of the victory of Ram over Ravan, celebration of the victory of Good over Evil.
We are trying to raise money for Dushahra 2013, a unique cultural and fun festival for the whole family, organized by the Indo-American Festivals, Inc with a mission to promote the culture and heritage of India. Dushahra 2013 is set for September 28 2013 at Lake Papaianni Park in Edison. The rain date is Oct 5, 2013.
Dushahra 2013 will feature a ballet called Ramleela based on the ancient epic of Ramayana; burning of a 25 ft effigy of the evil demon Ravan followed by fireworks supported by the township of Edison. The effigy will be replete with ten-heads and adorned with traditional costumes. Dushahra 2013 will also include cultural programs showcasing the different music and dance traditions of India, an arts & crafts fair, attractions and carnival rides for young children, health camps and food vendors.
