Dusty's Dogs: Let's get it started!
Organized by: Barbara Cannon
Approximately 25 veterans per day commit suicide in this country. Scientific research and personal experience is proving that veterans with traumatic brain injuries, physical disabilities, and PTSD can benefit greatly from the assistance of a service dog. The Veteran's Administration so far will not pay for costs related to dogs for veterans with PTSD, and many older Vietnam era veterans are falling through the cracks of the VA. Dusty's Dogs is named after a Vietnam era veteran I met who needed his dog trained in order to move out of transitional housing and into VA-approved housing, but he could not afford the fees. Dusty's Dogs will be a not-for-profit fundraising organization that will help defray the costs of training/owning a service dog for veterans, as well as serve as a resource for obtaining information about service dog organizations and trainers. We will be advocates for US veterans who want to obtain a service dog, with the belief that these dogs can and will save lives.
The money rasied now will be used to set up the non-profit: pay for registration fees, develop a website, pay for marketing costs, develop a logo, pay for print media, and more. We'll stretch these dollars as far as they can go!
