During the recent floods over Halloween weekend 2015, one of our FOM Operations Technicians, Duval Retana and his family experienced severe flooding to their home. Attached pictures are the morning of the floods. The flood waters continued to rise in Duval's neighborhood, a subdivision in Del Valle. Their home was flooded with about 18" of water from end to end.
Many friends, family members, and co-workers set out to help Duval with the daunting task of trying to recover his possessions and salvage what could be saved. But essentially all of the Retanas belongings, appliances, cupboards, electronics, sofas, beds, and personal items were affected.
What was attempted to be saved was taken to a storage facility where it was attempted to be "dried out". The drying out part didn't end well. Everything possessed a stench, and mold set in. It wasn't long before a white flag was raised and essentially all of the Retanas worthwhile possessions were sent to a landfill.
Here's the worst part...He and his wife DO NOT have flood insurance. Recent meetings with FEMA have given Duval hope that some form of government aid is a possibility. But we've seen glaciers form faster than some of our government agencies can respond and disperse needed funds, so we thought we'd take matters into our own hands and spread some holiday cheer. Our hopes are you will consider donating to his cause.
We haven't told Duval we're doing this, so please keep it a SECRET. We want to surprise him with this before we head out for Christmas. Happy Holidays all!
