DVGRR provides new beginnings for displaced Golden Retrievers and Goldendoodles and has been doing so for over 20 years. Some dogs come into our program as puppy mill survivors – dogs no longer useful for breeding or puppies that can’t be sold. Other dogs come to us having been neglected or abused with a deep-seated fear of humans. We also get dogs from families that can no longer keep them... for whatever reason. Every dog that comes to us deserves a second chance, and we work tirelessly to provide that through the highest quality veterinary care and educated rehabilitation.
Our innovative Project Home Life program – in which we help puppy mill survivors and undersocialized dogs transition from life in a hutch to life in a typical home – has been nationally recognized and coupled with our processes and level of care, led to DVGRR being named Purina’s Shelter of the Year in 2014.
We’ve helped dogs undergo incredible transformations. Dogs like Poppy, tied in a field and left to die; Tania, found so emaciated we weren’t sure she’d survive to arrive at our facility; Teddy and Freddy, two Goldendoodles left in a basement for 22 hours a day and with fur so matted it was painful for them to move; and Donny and Marie, two young puppy mill survivors that were so shut down they did nothing but cower in a corner for days after arriving at our Golden Gateway campus. Cano came to us with a complete fear of humans – we think he was used as a guard dog and beaten to make him mean.
All of these dogs are now in loving homes, leading the lives every dog should live – filled with love and affection, warm and safe.
With your help, whether through a donation or fundraising on our behalf, we can continue to provide these tail-wagging endings for Goldens, Goldendoodles, and dogs with “hearts of Gold” wherever they may be. Thank you.
