BENEFITING: PADDLE FOR LIFE
100% of the money raised from this fundraiser goes to the free Disabled Veterans Waters Sports Program in Vancouver, WA.
Vancouver Lake is the ideal place to expose disabled veterans to the sports of rowing, dragon boating, kayaking and Stand up Paddling (SUP). The facilities are old and in poor condition and we can't even get a wheelchair down the docks. We have an anonymous donor who will match funds up to $5,000 to help make material repairs to get this program off the ground.
Money raised will go to structural improvenments to docks and ramps to allow ADA access to all equipment. Money above what is raised will be used to purchase adapative equipment to allow more disabled veterans to get off the sofa and out on the water.
Water sports provide a freedom many disabled veterans no longer feel. In a rowing shell or kayak they can go anywhere they want. There are not limitations. Dragon boating is a team sport where veterans can join groups of 10 to 20 on the water. This creates an atmosphere similar to the unit cohesion they had while in the military. Team or solitary this program has something for all disabled vets.
Here is a video that shows why we started this program and why we feel it is so important!
This wonderful program for veterans is free and supported by donations and fundraising events like races. The current facility needs an overhaul. Just an ADA ramp to get to the docks is over $5,0000! We also need floating docks that are adequate to support a large number poeple safely.
We just need the paddling communities support! Supporters are invited to come out and try dragon boating for themselves. Large sponsors can set up a day to bring out the whole company for a day of team building and fun!
Please help us help the men and women who gave so much more than their time defending our freedom.
