BENEFITING: DZI FOUNDATION
Starting on March 19th, we (Taylor and Brandon) will be embarking on a 538-mile charity bike ride for the Dzi Foundation. Our journey will take place in Vietnam, beginning in the capitol city of Hanoi and ending in Da Nang. We hope that by completing this ride, we will raise awareness and money for Dzi, an organization based in Kathmandu that helps to create sustainable community solutions for rural villages in Nepal. Following the tragic earthquake in 2015, Dzi is also aiding in relief and support for their partner villages. The work of Dzi is of the utmost importance as Nepal rebuilds their political, social, and economical infrastructures following last year’s tragedy. Check them out: http://dzi.org/
A little bit about the riders:
I was born and raised in the Seattle area and attended Pitzer College in southern California to study psychology. During my time in undergrad, I had the opportunity to study abroad in Nepal and to live with a host family while learning the country’s culture and language. For this reason, the mission of the Dzi foundation hits close to home and this charity ride is extremely personal. Following graduation, I moved back to Asia where I have been living and teaching English in Can Tho, Vietnam for the past 8 months. In the coming year, I plan on moving to Oahu, Hawaii to work on an eco farm that provides holistic therapy to adults with disabilities and to eventually move back to Seattle to pursue a masters degree in School Psychology.
I was also born and raised in the greater Seattle area. I realized my passion for sustainable development while I was studying economics at Western Washington University. After graduation, I moved to Gunnison, CO to pursue a master’s degree in environmental management. I am focusing specifically on building sustainable and resilient communities with a global context. I plan on spending this upcoming fall semester in South Asia studying and implementing community-based sustainable development. The Dzi Foundation does incredible work with community development in Nepal. I am honored to ride and raise money for such an impactful organization.
