For our Bar Mitzvah projects, we decided we wanted to raise $5000.00 for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF). We have known each other since preschool and do many things together. Sports, school, summer camp and now we are coming together for this cause. In order to do this, we are arranging a 3-on-3 basketball tournament and donating all of the proceeds to JDRF.
We chose this organization because people close to us , including Claire (Eli's sister), have been diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes. This disease is very hard to deal with so we are trying to help out. The JDRF is a national foundation that pays for reserach trying to find a cure for T1D. Living with T1D is a 24/7 job which includes giving insulin shots, counting carbs and constantly monitoring blood sugar levels. Over 15,000 children are diagnosed with T1D annually, and this rate has been rising 3% a year. This means many generations of children could potentially benefit from your donation.
Here is how you can help: Sign up to play! Each player has to donate $25.00 to play in the tournament. We are giving out separate forms to register for the tournament. Let us know if you need one!
If you are unable to play in the tournament but wish to help us reach our goal, use this page to donate. Even the smallest amount can help find a cure for this disease that has effected 29 million people in the U.S.
Thank you for your support and we appreciate you helping us reach our goal. We hope to see you on the court!!
