BENEFITING: EDUCATORS FOR EXCELLENCE
ORGANIZER: EDUCATORS FOR EXCELLENCE
Over the past 3 years I have been involved with Educators 4 Excellence (E4E) a non-profit that works to ensure the voices of classroom teachers are included in policy discussions that affect our students and our classrooms.
E4E has already had an enormous impact on my students, my school, and me. In the past year I was part of the policy team on Differentiated Compensation. With the teamwork of 12 other teachers we were able to create policy recommendations that empower teachers to be leaders in their schools and communities while providing compensation for their tremendous work. This issue was important to me because great teachers leave the classroom every year due to low compensation. Reimagining a compensation system where a district can attract, develop, and retain great talent will ultimately benefit our students and their achievement to and through college.
Through my research I was able to understand different models of compensation for teachers, realize we need to professionalize the profession, and develop my skills as a policy analyst. Not only were we able to create recommendations, but also we were able to advocate for our recommendations. I was able to give a professional development at my school to present the recommendations and get feedback. With the help of E4E, I have been able to hone in on my leadership skills to begin making the changes that will continue to drive student achievement.
#ThankaTeacher by donating to E4E. Your donation will support the leadership development and impact of teachers in Los Angeles by defraying the costs of grassroots organizing efforts, Teacher Leadership Program trainings, publishing Teacher Policy Team white papers, and supporting teacher advocacy of policies that are good for students. My goal is to raise $500. Every contribution will help support more teachers like me.
