Bill Eagle Polleys
You know this man….. he’ll ride for the first time….. and has never tapped you for a charitable contribution in his 86 years, Bill Polleys
I know him too. I’m Mary Lou Kohout, his volunteer aid and mentor for ages. You’re aware by now that he is one of hundred’s of thousands diagnosed with Parkinsons Disease in US. By his own admission, he is a lucky one, 12 years on, who can completely care for himself and remains largely unencumbered. He’s invited you to help.
Don’t remember skier Bill Polleys? In 1970, pioneer freestyle coach at Waterville Valley, NH where luminaries like owner and Olympian Tom Corcoran, Canadian stunt skier, author and Ski School Director Doug Pfieffer, Swiss National Ski Team star and Waterville Ski School Director Paul Phosi and Publicist extraordinaire head cheer leader Bernie Weitzel formulated todays Olympic Freestyle Skiing Events? Then Wayne Wong as an exemplary athlete made the sport while Bill “danced” with the kids, did the paperwork and wrote the first USSA rules.
Or you may have been on the receiving end of Bill’s generous ski teaching through tricks like The Waltz! (1, 2 , 3, to the men)
No? Still a stranger? How does “EAGLE” Polleys sound? That’s him! Twenty years of volunteer service at the Sundance Film Festival and Eccles Theater. Under tutelage of “Admiral” Bob and Princess Bev, rose from the shadows to Sundance Festival Assessor.
Bill, the Navy jet pilot? Texas Instruments international leader Bill? Cruising Club of America skipper Bill?
OK, you don’t know him then. But listen to what he says about the National Ability Center.
“The only Parkinson therapy I know works, has actually been proven clinically, is exercise. And the biggest barrier to getting that exercise is lack of motivation. Parkinsons is not for everyone, and certainly blocking an IED should not be for anyone. But they both immobilize random people. Very few of that random sample are dyed-in-the-wool jocks. Most had far more fetching things to do than sweat in a gym. So many suffer, decline and fail.
“That fate is not inevitable! Here comes the National Ability Center!!!
“The NAC is dedicated to those who want to be all they can be, but carry a burden that must be overcome.
“So people like me, most far more burdened than me, many with little money after medical expenses, can engage NAC in all four seasons and be led to exercise that is fun. Here in Park City, Utah they meet the outdoors again. Play variations of sports they once loved, find kindred souls to game or gab with while making exercise fun.
“In fact NAC is so addicting, many with disabilities find themselves useful volunteering posts within those welcoming purposes.
“So let it be a first. I do ride and ask for your money. Not for myself, not for Parkinsons per se (Parkinsons patients will be well served to crawl onto one of NAC’s recumbent Trikes I ride) nor for our wounded veterans directly, but for all of the above!!!
“Your gift is an “everyman” gift. It could help your neighbor, your old school teacher, you boss’s brother in law, your ex, your own child and in the long run… you. If you can read this plea, you’re a candidate for NAC help if you need it.
PAY NOW! Play later. and enjoy my sincere thanks and know Bill, Eagle, William or whatever Polleys rides for you!
