Earth Island Institute is a non-profit, public interest, membership organization that supports people who are creating solutions to protect our shared planet. Our four main programs are Project Support, the award-winning Earth Island Journal, the New Leaders Initiative, and our Restoration Initiative.
The Project Support program provides our fiscally sponsored projects a stable infrastructure, essential services, training, access to resources, and community- empowering strong leaders and skillful managers to create impactful organizations. We currently have 65 projects under our fiscal sponsorship. For a list visit our website.
The Earth Island Journal combines investigative journalism and thought-provoking essays that make the subtle but profound connections between the environment and other contemporary issues. The Journal’s unique brand of environmental journalism is a key resource for anyone eager to help protect our shared planet.
The New Leaders Initiative (NLI) grows environmental leadership by raising the profile of young emerging environmental leaders in North America, celebrating their achievements, and providing them with the skills, resources, and relationships to lead effective campaigns and projects. NLI honors the legacy of David Brower - firebrand environmentalist, community activist, and founder of Earth Island Institute.
Earth Island's Restoration Initiatives Fund supports emerging leaders in restoration. With guidance and funding we help build community contituencies to bring life back to once-polluted and neglected streams, wetlands, and open space in Southern California.
