The East Tennessee Peace and Justice Center's Fundraiser:

PEOPLE POWERED

Nowhere To Go
July 11, 2016

There are anywhere from 800-1200 experiencing homelessness in Knoxville on a given day.  There are only 450 emergency shelter beds available.  See more

THE STORY:

The ETP&JC organizes, trains, and mobilizes grassroots collectives to dismantle the systemic injustices that harass their lives. We facilitate The Knoxville Homeless Collective, The Knox County Incarceration Collective, and The Knoxville Tenants Rights Collective. We also publish the street newspaper, The Amplifier.

Our work is wholly 'people-powered.' We are currently working to pass a homeless bill of rights in the city of Knoxville. We are working towards reinstating in person visits into the Knox County Detention Center, as well as overturning the 'postcard only' policy. Through the Tenant's Rights Collective, we are working towards education on lease agreements and discriminatory evictions. We are working on other things too, like a street newspaper in Chattanooga! All of this requires that our hard working, dedicated staff is funded. We believe strongly in charity. However, we also believe that change trumps charity, and we are dedicated to defending the one, while pursuing the other. Please consider supporting this work, it doesn't happen without people - like you.
