BENEFITING: MIGHTY WRITERS
I was feeling frustrated about the world and I felt that I couldn't do anything about it. That subsequently made me feel angry. I tried to eat my anger, but that didn't seem to solve the problem, so I made this.
So if you're feeling angry and frustrated, here's a crowdrise, and maybe for a little while, you can tell your anger and frustration to go away because you did some good today.
What this is for:
Mighty Writers is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit. Our mission is to teach Philadelphia kids (ages 7 to 17) to think and write with clarity so they can achieve success at school, at work and in life.
We offer a daily afterschool Academy, plus long- and short-term writing classes at night and on the weekends. We also have a Mighty Teen Scholars program, mentorships, intensive SAT Prep courses and college essay writing classes.
All MW programs are free to Philadelphia students.
Our volunteers are integral to our success. Over 300 of the city’s best creative minds (writers. teachers, journalists, artists, etc.) volunteer to teach and mentor over 1,000 kids at Mighty Writers annually.
Everything we do at Mighty Writers is designed to help combat Philadelphia’s literacy crisis. More than forty percent of our city’s students drop out before high school graduation and half of all working-age adults are functionally illiterate. These are statistics we’re out to change.
