To raise money for Medecins Sans Frontieres (MSF [www.msf.org], one of the many organizations working to stop the Ebola outbreak in West Africa), our family will set up a lemonade stand on the weekend of September 20/21. We'll be selling lemonade, hot chocolate if it's cold!
All of the money we make at the lemonade stand will be donated to MSF (each item will be priced at $1). Our family will also quadruple the amount raised at the lemonade stand by donating an additional $3 per item sold to MSF. (We will also donate an additional $3 per item sold to the CDC Foundation's Global Disaster Response Fund to support the epidemiologic response. [www.cdcfoundation.org/globaldisaster])
You can help one of three ways:
1) Pledge an amount per item sold. (For example, if you pledge 10 cents per item and we sell 50 items, we would raise an additional $5.) If you choose this option, please contact Wendy Bamberg or Michael Fleisher (you know how) and we will communicate with you to make arrangements. (And add your name to our team!)
2) Donate a one-time amount. Click on "Donate to this Fundraiser", or donate to another organization supporting the Ebola response effort.
3) Open your own lemonade stand, or think of your own idea! Get pledges from your friends and family and raise even more money. Crowdrise (www.crowdrise.com) is easy and can help you get started.
An enormous response will be needed to curb the unprecedented Ebola outbreak in West Africa. This is a terrifying disease. Less than half of infected persons in the current outbreak will survive. Medical and epidemiological support are crucial.
