Echoing Green is a non-profit global social venture fund that identifies, invests in and supports emerging social entrepreneurs to unleash next generation talent and solve the world’s biggest problems. Since its founding in 1987, Echoing Green has provided more than 500 promising social entrepreneurs working in over 40 countries with $31 million in start-up funding, customized support services, and access to a global network of champions. These social innovators have gone on to launch, and now lead, some of today’s most important social enterprises such as Teach for America, City Year and SKS Microfinance.
Echoing Green has been supporting social entrepreneurs around the world for 26 years. This year, to honor the organization's 26th birthday, I will be running 26.2 miles in the 2013 ING NYC Marathon on November 3, 2013 and have committed to raising at least $2,600 to support future Echoing Green Fellows.
As a member of the EG Social Investment Council, I have gotten the unique opportunity to work directly with some outstanding EG fellows: Adam from New Media Advocacy Project, which empowers defenders of human rights and social justice around the world by integrating video and social media into their advocacy strategies; Faty from Adive, which connects French corporations with suppliers and entrepreneurs from underrepresented communities; Adam from Rocking The Boat, which uses boats to help young teens challenged by severe economic, educational, and social disadvantage develop into empowered adults; and Markese and John from Fight for Light, which empowers local black college students to be environmental leaders by providing access to sustainable energy and urban agriculture practices.
Please join me in my journey to run 26.2 miles and help support 26 more years of innovative and impactful work by future Echoing Green Fellows!
