BENEFITING: Senegal Ecovillage Microfinance Fund
Cooking is the essential human activity that nourishes families, communities, and culture.
However, for the three billion people worldwide who cook with solid fuels, it presents an economic, social and environmental challenge. Women worldwide spend up to 20 hours a week and nearly 30% of their income searching for fuel. Cooking with solid fuels on open fires and inefficient stoves produces indoor air pollution, which kills 4 million people annually, more than AIDS, malaria, and TB combined.
The EcoSac is our solution to make cooking healthy, economically beneficial and environmentally sustainable.
The EcoSac is a temperature retention bag that keeps food cold or warm for up to 12 hours. By doing so, it reduces the quantity of fuel used to cook, as well as up to two hours of cooking per meal.
When a woman buys an EcoSac, she will not only save money, time and energy, she can also become a vendor, thus making her own profit. Not only that, every EcoSac sold supports the training of women in Senegal to help build their own micro-enterprise in order to have an additional source of income.
Each EcoSac is Made in Senegal, providing employment to a small team of tailors who design, source and product it locally.
By supporting this campaign, you will help us:
- expand the reach of the EcoSac project into rural Senegal;
- provide one-on-one mentoring of women-led enterprises;
- organise community events to raise awareness about the impact of inefficient cooking.
By donating you are helping us get one step closer to making clean cooking energy accessible to all.
