On Nov 6th, 2016, I will be taking part in the New York City Marathon. I am running for a great charity called ECPAT(End Child Prostitution, Child Pornography and Trafficking of Children for Sexual Purposes) - a global network dedicated to protecting children from all forms of commercial sexual exploitation.
Six years ago, I was completely unaware of the scope and severity of this atrocity, until I picked up a book by Rachel Lloyd called “Girls Like Us”. After reading this book and researching more about this issue, I was completely horrified and ashamed of my ignorance. Modern day slavery is real and it plagues communities across the globe. Victims are exploited and forced to face cruelties that no one should.
Human trafficking is a global issue that affects men, women and especially vulnerable children. Many people are unaware of the problems and most people chose to ignore it. One of the most powerful ways to intervene on the behalf of human trafficking victims is to raise awareness about this tragedy.
ECPAT has been fighting to end children exploitation since 1990 and continues to work with the global community to ensure that children everywhere maintains their rights and be free and secure from all forms of commercial sexual exploitation. Through this campaign, I hope to help raise awareness and support for ECPAT in their cause. It would mean so much to me if you could help support this cause by sponsoring me for this event.
