Update: Summary of Earthquake Response
The Cinterandes Mobile Surgery Team has ended the acute earthquake response. The team provided medical and surgical services at various locations including: Pedernales, Jama, Canoa and Bahía de Caráques. They treated over 125 patients for various medical, emergency and acute trauma surgical conditions. In addition, Cinterandes Surgical Unit became the main operating room for Bahía de Caráques Hospital.
Cinterandes would like to thank each of its donors for your solidarity and trust. Thanks to your contributions, Cinterandes has been able to provide medical and surgical care to people who were devastated by the earthquake. The Cinterandes Team is very grateful for your help.
One of the most satisfying cases of this mission was a severely politraumatized patient who was resuscitated and treated successfully for multiple fractures and several acute trauma conditions. The team is greatful to God they managed to save his life despite all the odds against the patient.
Additionally, Cinterandes also functioned as the adult triage center for the Bahía de Caráques Hospital for a whole day. Not only did Cinterandes provide treatment at the mobile unit, the team also made house visits.
Furthermore, before Cinterandes returned to Cuenca, they supplied medications to healthcare centers that were direly needed to treat their patients. Additionally, Cintrandes provided an electrical generator for a clinic that did not have electricity. They also provided water and food directly to patiens at multiple stops between Bahía de Caraquez and Rocafuerte (Strong rock).
Although the acute phase response is done, the Cinterandes team will continue its commitment to communities devastated by the earthquake. They will be communicating with Ecuador's Ministry of Health to coordinate how to best serve the ecuadorian victims.
From now on, all further donations will be designated to the longterm services Cinterandes will provide at communities affected by the earthquake. Cinterandes hopes to establish permanent missions at various earthquake sites. The Cinterandes foundation has opened a new donations page: https://www.generosity.com/emergencies-fundraising/ecuador-earthquake-medical-and-surgical-response
THANK YOU FOR STANDING TOGETHER IN SOLIDARITY AND FOR GIVING SO SELFLESSLY. MAY GOD BLESS EACH ONE OF YOU AND YOUR FAMILIES.
