THE STORY:

On April 16, 2016, a devastating 7.8-magnitude earthquake struck Ecuador, destroying entire communities on the pacific coastline provinces of Manabi and Esmeraldas. Human casualties now exceed 600 and 25,000 people have been left homeless. The earthquake has destroyed or left unsafe thousands of structures, buildings, bridges and roads, including 281 schools. The negative impact of the earthquake continues to grow each day and Ecuador is facing billions of dollars of costs and many years of reconstruction work to get back to where it was before this disaster. The Association of Ecuadorians in Ottawa-Gatineau, in cooperation with Ecuadorians in Canada, and with the support of the Embassy and Consulates of Ecuador in Canada, invite the Canadian community to join in the relief efforts to help provide basic items to those left homeless. We are seeking donations in order to purchase the following specific items and send them immediately to Ecuador: 1. Small water purification units - (LifeStraw Family 1.0 or Community) 2. Canned food (easy open lid) 3. Large Tents (while demolition and reconstruction takes place) 4. Folding beds/Cots 5. Sleeping bags 6. Batteries 7. Flashlights 8. LED and Halogen lights Even the smallest act of giving can make an enormous positive difference during these very difficult times. For this reason, we invite you to be part of this effort, and support the people of Ecuador. For material donations of the above referenced items, please contact the Association of Ecuadorians in Ottawa Gatineau - info@aeog.ca
