Duane White wrote -We all have a calling in life. Seventeen years ago, God placed a calling on Karma and Andy Slusarchuk’s lives. In her homeland of Ecuador, she knew there were needs to be met and Karma and Andy felt a strong calling from God to begin making annual mission trips to Ecuador. It is this same calling that has been placed in the hearts of both Duane and me. Every year, a team from Houston and Atlanta are organized to make the trip to Esmeraldas, one of the poorest cities in Ecuador. It is here that the ministry teams minister to local villages and bring to them hope: the word of God. No mission trip is ever the same! Shoes and basic hygiene products are provided to children, Vacation Bible Schools are held, community service projects are provided to local villages, ministry team members visit local hospitals, orphanages, and nursing homes to provide prayer, encouragement, and the good news of Christ.
Each year, our ministry continues to grow and 2015 is no exception. Our agenda includes:
We anticipate 700-1200 children to participate in Vacation Bible Schools (VBS) provided by our team.
We will be visiting a local orphanage to provide encouragement, love, and invest time.
We will provide the local hospital patrons with coffee and sandwiches
Minister to street kids
Nursing home visits.
Our team includes 4 pastors that will provide discipleship training for 18 local church members and 2 of their pastors to further equip them to spread the Gospel.
Adult bible studies
Local community projects (clean water, school repairs)
Why are we going? As Christians we believe in the Great Commission as given to us by our Lord and Savior. In Matthew 28:18-20 Jesus said to His disciples, “All authority has been given to Me in Heaven and on earth. Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I command you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.”
How do we provide these acts of services to the people of Ecuador to fulfill the Great Commission? In the past, our mission trips have been funded by our mission team and generous donations. However, as our team continues to grow, so does our need for additional funding and we are looking for partners who are interested in supporting our ministry not only through prayer but through Spirit-lead donations. We have set up an account with GoFundMe in order to make donating easy!
In closing, we appreciate your prayers and consideration for our mission trip to Ecuador this year. Please be in prayer for us, as our mission trip is scheduled for June 25th-July the 3rd. We pray that lives will be forever changed and that God be glorified!
