THE STORY:

Kim DelMonico wrote -

EDDIE RIVERA is a close friend of our ChoiceCenter LV144 team member, Scott Epstein. Eddie was a “tinknocker,” part of the Local 28 Sheet Metal Workers Union in New York City. After the September 11th tragedy, Eddie signed up as a volunteer skilled worker who went to Ground Zero to provide support.

After volunteering, Eddie’s health declined. As a result of his health conditions and an accident that recently took place, Eddie was forced to amputate one of his legs.

Unemployed and uninsured, Eddie receives compensation from government agencies and the WTC Compensation Fund.  A resident of New York City, he is unable to cover essential health and living expenses and pays for his medical bills independently. Currently, Eddie is in the hospital awaiting his prosthetic leg; his journey to full recovery is extensive and he will endure grueling physical therapy to learn how to walk again.

Eddie is a gifted artist and continues this passion while in the hospital; his dream is to give back to the world through his talent. A leader and an inspirational man, Eddie remains strong, focused and determined to recover from his series of tragedies and go on to support his local community and those affected by the 9/11 tragedy using his art and heart as a vehicle.

TUESDAY'S CHILDREN - FIRST RESPONDER ALLIANCE strives to provide first responders and their families, as well as volunteers (like Eddie Rivera), with services and programs to alleviate stress and other mental health concerns. The First Responder Alliance has many valuable partners which aim to address your families' urgent needs and provide a bridge to external physical and mental health services.

Tuesday's Children has found that when they connect their First Responder families to other members of the 9/11 community there is a profound and positive impact on collective healing - many of their programs assist families in forming connections, developing support systems and assisting families in coping with chronic mental and physical concerns.

First Responder Alliance Programs and Services:

  • Programs and counseling for 9/11 responders and their families
  • Wellness and enrichment programs for 9/11 responders and their families
  • Psycho-education programs for responders, spouses and children to improve family dynamics, including communication, stress management, parenting, self-esteem and healthy living

Any support you can provide to Tuesday's Children would be greatly appreciated. Tuesday's Children is a 501(c)(3) organization. Please share this link on your own page and forward to your friends and family!

We are committed to raise all funds by April 5, 2015 at 12 PM Pacific / 3 PM Eastern so please donate NOW!
