My name is Eddie Castro. I am 42 years old and work at Whole Foods Market in Beverly Hills. I am a fairly new Marathoner. This will be my second Marathon to date. I ran for the first time in the LA Marathon with a time of 5:56. This was the end result of a year of hard work and preparation for me as well as a personal goal to lose weight and become healthier. In a year I lost 50lbs and have enjoyed the different ways I have worked to keep it off. I bike ride at the beach or in my neighborhood or run with my golden retriever, Fergie.
Last year's Marathon was a mile stone for me and I dedicated it in memory of my brother Maurice Castro who I lost when he was killed in a motorcylce accident at the age of 23. He always had a love for the outdoors and was a cyclist who competed in triathalons. He was a huge inspiration for me and continues to be my driving force when I am out competing.
This year I am running for Save the TaTas. An organization that raises awareness for Breast Cancer. I have a daughter, Priscilla who is 19 and an amazing partner Rosa who is my biggest fan. Both beautiful and healthy and I am so grateful that they are. But I know many fathers, sons, husbands, brothers and friends are living and fighting everyday with their "girls" to beat this life challenging disease.
My goal is small. I thought I would try to raise $500 but in the larger picture, imagine if everyone who knows and loves a woman would set out to raise $500. We could really make a difference. Hopefully in my lifetime someone will create a cure for this cancer, but until they do the least we can do for each other is (in the words of my bro)
