BENEFITING: AMERICAN CANCER SOCIETY
EVENT DATE: Dec 14, 2011
EDR has been a long-standing partner of the American Cancer Society. Almost everyone has been touched by cancer, either through a personal battle or through that of a loved one. We invite you to join the EDR family by supporting the fight against cancer in your community.
Your donation through the Due Diligence at Dawn conference will support patient navigation programs right here in the Newark Metropolitan Area.
The American Cancer Society is in the business of helping people stay well, get well, fight back and find cures. We acknowledge that there is a disproportionate burden of cancer in urban areas and in areas of diverse populations. Newark is hit hard with a high incidence of cancer and, more strikingly, with a high mortality rate.
Cancer's effect on a community like Newark might seem overwhelming, but there is hope. That hope comes in the form of research breakthroughs, early screening tests, laws that ensure access to treatment, and the programs and services that are available to the thousands of cancer patients in our community. In short, the hope in the fight against cancer comes in the form of the work the American Cancer Society conducts every day, right here in Newark.
In 2010 alone, the American Cancer Society served 1,120 Newark residents and provided them with nearly 1,500 free programs and services. Those services included financial assistance, free rides to and from treatment, free wigs and makeup for women dealing with the effects of losing their hair, and peer-to-peer support for newly diagnosed patients, many of whom are uninsured or underinsured.
By joining with EDR to make a donation to the American Cancer Society, the American Cancer Society can bring hope to more patients here in the community. EDR will match up to $2,000 donated through this event.
