BENEFITING: Read Alliance
EVENT DATE: Nov 04, 2012
A decade ago I set out on a mission to run the prestigious NYC Marathon. Injury, life and unfortunate lottery results have gotten in my way. This is the year I will accomplish the goal that I have been chasing for a very, very long time...and I cannot wait to cross the finish line!
While my efforts will come and go in a matter of months, and I'll be standing with a medal and a smile at the end of the day, there are a number of amazing organizations that have spent years trying to achieve their missions, and they will continue to do so long after the marathon has ended.
Two years ago I joined the Leadership Council of Read Alliance, which works to improve the educational trajectory of at-risk kindergarten and first grade students through one-to-one tutoring in foundational reading skills.
Read Alliance trains and supports teen tutors to work with each child at his or her own instructional level, which establishes a path toward solid grade-level reading.
Since 2000, Read Alliance has enabled more than 10,000 struggling young readers to become successful students while at the same time providing meaningful jobs and community service opportunities for over 8,700 teen tutors.
Please consider contributing to Read Alliance and be part of the success of its students!
