BENEFITING: Imagine Scholar Inc
Hi everyone! Thanks for visiting my Crowdrise page :). Here I am raising funds for the non-profit Imagine Scholar, under which I have joined their team as their newest International Development Intern. I'm super excited to have been accepted into this amazing program and to be given this invaluable opportunity.
I need YOUR HELP! Help educate and spark a change with me by donating to my fundraiser for Imagine Scholar! $5 buys one book, $35 covers food costs for a student and their family for a whole month, $48 provides clean drinking water to a student and their family for a whole month, $100 sponsors an Imagine Scholar for a month, and $360 provides a student and their family a 1-year food pack. A single dollar could go a long way!
What is Imagine Scholar you may ask? Imagine Scholar is a non-profit organization which runs an afterschool youth development program for disadvantaged middle and high schoolers in the Nkomazi Region of South Africa. Their program includes personalized academic tutoring, computer and technology training, coverage of public school supplies, access to clean drinking water and nutritious food, university and career mentorship, and afterschool Imagine Scholar classes revolved around literacy and mathematical studies. Imagine Scholar focuses on a holistic educational model which helps students develop their character, critical thinking mindsets, effective communication skills, and their partnership within the community. Students are hand-selected, having distinguished themselves as highly passionate, academic, and rigorous individuals within the Nkomazi Region.
In the Summer of 2017, I will visit Imagine Scholar in South Africa to observe the program through a hands-on experience, form lasting connections with the students, and help assist with the differing educational components of Imagine Scholar. In the Nkomazi Region over 60% of people live in extreme poverty, while over 40% have HIV/AIDS. Additionally, over 25% have received no schooling and less than 2% of residents have completed a form of higher education. That's why Imagine Scholar is so essential in this region for it has begun to bring about economic and societal change to the existing community by providing students with opportunities to higher learning (such as Global Scholars programs) and educational topics (such as HIV/AIDS prevention).
Stand with me and unite with the students of Nkomazi! Thank you for your support and generosity! - Becca :)
