Educating for Authentic Hope
February 19, 2017
My name is Michael Meurer. I am a political analyst and writer.
I started Reimagining Politics with a vision of a humane democratic world in which civic life is run by effective and informed citizens.
The mission of the project is to create unique educational experiences that teach, empower and connect such citizens across borders in ways that can last a lifetime.
With a small semi-volunteer team who I pay as I can afford, we work in Latin America, Europe and the US with universities, civic organizations, NGO's and government agencies who want our one-of-a-kind civic training.
Reimagining Politics is absolutley unique! Our seminars are based not only on my classroom experience, but on my journalistic travel and research since August 2016 investigating new civic models that are changing the face of politics worldwide. (see here) The new Reimagining Politics curriculum is based in large part on the results of this self-funded research combined with my extensive experience as a political strategist, organizer and internationally published writer, including my work as co-founder of the 1 million member Courage Campaign.
Our seminars are conducted as civic laboratories, mixing intense formal classroom work with real world civic actions in the host community. Classes are focused on examining the role of politics in human affairs from a variety of perspectives while exposing students to new civic models and theoretical frameworks that are changing the way politics is done. These include civic mapping, civic dinners, community exchanges in the ancient "trafkintu" tradition and civic toolkits, as just a few examples.
Universities and other organisations that partner with us get ongoing publicity from our multi-faceted media outreach program. This includes PR Newswire press releases and a full array of social media outreach and publicity. We have been featured on CNN, in Speakout, Alternet, Truthout, the Montevideo Portal in Uruguay, ATAQD in Argentina, Empathy Educates, the Santa Monica Mirror and Pressenza in England, Italy, France, Germany and Spain.
We also maintain a jobs board tied to our international network of associates to provide Reimagining Politics alumni with assistance finding jobs and internships.
With the exception of $1,750 in generous donations from our intitial Crowdrise supporters, this project has been self-funded since late 2015 by me. I have spent nearly $35,000 of my own money. The result is a university level civic-political curriculum that I believe is unique in the world.
If you want to effectively combat the decay of civic knowledge and engagement that has produced our current deranged politics, I wholeheartedly believe that the completely new one-of-a-kind educational experiences we now offer are one of the most effective long term solutions you will find anywhere.
I hope that you will donate on this page or commit to a monthly contribution to my Patreon account to allow my work to continue. And please share this project with others in your network and ask them to help too.
For those of you who prefer to make a small monthly donation, if 500 people commit to $2 per month on my Patreon page, the cost of a coffee at Starbucks, I can continue to grow this project until it becomes self-sustaining.
I welcome all questions, suggestions and comments. Thank you for your interest and your generosity.
