Did you know that more than half of Zambia's population is under 16. Zambia has the highest orphan per capita rate in the world. It also has the 16th highest rate of child marriages in the world. These marriages take away a girl's childhood, exposing her to a life of abuse. She is sold like property for a dowry, often because her parent's can no longer afford her education. That mean she is pulled out of school, forced to marry a man often more than twice her age, and forced to bear children. But because her body is so young, she will often die due to birth complications. These girls don't deserve this. The Zambian Government recently had a conference about how to deal with the issue of child marriages, and they came to the same conclusion I did: education. However, only 6% of their budget is devoted to education. According to www.girlsnotbrides.org, "UNFPA found that 65% of women aged 20-24 with no education and 58% with primary education were married or in union at age 18, compared to only 17% of women with secondary education or higher." This fundraiser is working to give an education to three young girls. We feel that the best place to start is with the possible victims, and three young orphans living in the slums of Lusaka are at a high risk of getting married before the age of 18. Please consider donating to give them an amazing education. I have visited and worked with these girls, and these little angels don't deserve the future laid out for them. For more information on the schools they will be attending, visit this link: http://familylegacy.com/our-ministries/fathers-heart-sponsorship/lifeway-christian-academies/ and for more information on the three girls we hope to save, visit @EducateZambia on instagram or twitter.
