Education & Global Health: Teach and Study in Taiwan
Organized by: Donna Buchanan
Greetings family & friends!
As an Early Childhood Education Teacher and a Global Health advocate, Gary and Donna are passionate and hopeful about solid educational opportunities for marginalized children and for integral community access to proficient and quality 'Public Health'.
To truly serve our community, we need to further our studies and also gain the economic independence that can allow for us to give back whole heartedly to the less privileged. As a family, we have decided to travel all the way to the island of Taiwan where we will be taking very meaningful steps towards making our vision become reality.
Donna will be pursuing a Masters Degree in Global Health and Preventative Medicine and Gary will study Educational Policy and Administration.
The main reasons for choosing Taiwan to study are the relatively low tuition cost combined with the fact that we are both TEFL (Teach English as a Foreign Language) certified teachers with both online and in-person teaching capabilities. This allows for economic sustainability during our time of study. It is our hope to bring back a new international perspective to enhance the social development of Jamaica and potentially various countries in Africa.
Gary has been a teacher for over 10 years, being principal for 5 years at The Solomonic All Saints Prep and subsequently co creating Egzio Tutoring Services which has been in operation for the past five years. Egzio Tutoring Services offers individual attention to students who have challenges as well as those who perform at their age and grade level. Under the tutelage of Gary, Students have successfully gained passes in the local GSAT examinations where they have been placed into prominent High Schools such as Queens High, Camperdown High, Jamaica College and Excelsior High School. Ultimately, Gary wants to give support to schools where marginalized children can obtain quality education and to expand his tutoring service to be able to accommodate more students in need.
Donna is a public health and preventative medicine advocate. She has experience in the Public Health system in Jamaica having worked at the Bustamante Children's Hospital as a Ward Clerk and also as a Health and Nutrition Educator with the Black River Health Department. She has also had the opportunity to manage the operations of an Acupuncture Clinic and Wellness Therapy organization within the corporate area. It is her mission to empower persons to take better responsibility for the state of their health and to provide sustainable recommendations to policy making organizations as it relates to public health care. She is determined to positively influence substandard public health-care systems through the knowledge gained throughout her studies. A mother of three beautiful children, Donna is also a Massage Therapist, Children Fashion Designer, and producer of family friendly organically based medicinal body products.
We are herby seeking your assistance which will help us with airfare for four, and to help sustain our family for the first two months in Taiwan until we are fully settled.
Your assistance will be immensely appreciated!
Gary and Donna.
