Esperanza Juvenil is a not-for-profit organization that helps highly-motivated children and youth from low-income backgrounds to reach their maximum potential. The 170 youth who are currently part of Esperanza Juvenil come from difficult situations in which their families and communities cannot support their basic needs- education, health and a safe upbringing. Esperanza Juvenil provides these youth with the opportunity to receive an education with the goal that they will graduate from college, reach their maximum potential as individuals and contribute to their communities. The program has three aspects. First, Esperanza Juvenil has a residential program of family-like homes, with a strong emphasis on values, which provide academic, emotional, physical and spiritual support year-round. Each home has approximately 13 boys or girls. Currently, we have 7 homes for children and 2 for university students. Second, the Esperanza Juvenil Elementary School provides a high-quality education for the children from 7am to 4pm Monday through Friday and on Saturday mornings. The curriculum focuses on the fundamentals- math, reading, writing, science and history- as well as on computers, and English. Finally, Esperanza Juvenil provides all of the children and youth the support they need to attend and graduate from college. The university scholars at Esperanza Juvenil receive scholarships from the universities they attend and live in the Esperanza Juvenil homes.
