BENEFITING: OUTREACH AFRICA INC
While visiting the home of a friend in Kenya, Lost Boy Angelo Maker spoke with a young Sudanese refugee girl, Sharon Angeer Dau, whose story affected him deeply. Angelo said to us “You know I do not cry, but this girl’s story made water drop from my eyes.” Sharon (pictured left) and her elder sister, both in their last years of high school in Kenya, had been forced to drop out because they had no family to support them. Living on their own, they had lost their mother 6 years earlier and their father was jobless in South Sudan. In addition, these two young girls were responsible for caring for their two younger brothers who had also been forced to drop out of school. Though they had temporary shelter, they did not know what tomorrow would bring and had lost hope. What affected Angelo so deeply was that the 4 siblings talked of committing suicide.
Angelo called us as soon as he hit the ground in the US, asking if there was some way Outreach Africa could help. We put the word out about the two sisters being so close to finishing school and managed to find sponsors for them. Sharon’s sister graduated last December. Sharon will graduate this year, all with the help of donors life you! Sharon's dream is to become the Minister of Education and judging from her spirit - we think she just might!
Sharon, and refugee children like her, are the reason why the volunteers of Outreach Africa do not give up! This term alone (4 mos. of school similar to semesters) we must raise an additional $7,000 to keep students in our program who otherwise have no funds to remain in school.
Time is short! These children must have be on their way to school by September 2012 so ideally we need to raise our money by mid-August!
By making a donation to this cause you really can walk away from your computer knowing that you played a huge role at a grass roots level. 100% of your donation will go directly to a child in need. If after donating you just can't get enough, visit our website (www.lostboysUS.org) and consider becoming a full time sponsor for one of these children. We would love to have you join our team!
Now let's send these kids to school!
