Education + h20 for Nepal
Organized by: Sarah Collins
EVENT DATE Feb 10, 2016
Friends + Family —
As some of you have already heard, I am in the process of preparing to leave for a month to Kathmandu, Nepal in the second week of February. Very soon, I know!
This was an opportunity that surfaced a few weeks ago and has been a quick deciding process—but to be mindful, I've spent these last weeks knee-deep in factual research, conversation and soul searching, and I am excited to say that I feel emotionally prepared and energized to partake in the opportunities at hand.
Over the course of the month, I will be volunteering for a school called Kathmandu International Study Center to gather photo assets and building a website that will be easily updated by them in the future. KISC is entirely run by qualified volunteers and provides education for the children of missionary families in Kathmandu. The school is also working on expanding their influence to improve the quality of education around the developing country of Nepal.
Along with that, as a team member of Flight for the Cause, where we believe in directly helping people on both fun and practical levels, I am partnering with Waves for Water to courier clean water kits to the country. Waves for Water is an amazing non-profit that operates on a "Do-It-Yourself Humanitarian Model" that is particularly geared toward surfers, but every day people like you and me who travel can bring clean water kits to the places we are going. The filters are small but powerful — they can provide up to 100 people with clean water for up to 5 years if properly taken care of. As you know, Kathmandu was hit hard by the earthquake(s) in 2015, and W4W had mobilized a clean-water relief initiative immediately after the disaster, but there is still much to rebuild in the country.
If you are interested in supporting me on this mission of applying my skills to further quality education and bringing a clean water resource to a place in need, the people of Nepal and I would be honored.
Here are three ways I could use your support:
1. Financially; to cover travel to and from Nepal and the cost of my life expenses while I am away volunteering.
2. Donations for the purchasing of the water filters I will be couriering which are $50 a piece. Please navigate to my fundraising page via W4W if you are interested in this
3. Prayer / intense thoughts of protection and health!
Please let me know if you have any questions about my trip, and if you are interested in being a clean water courier in the future, check out Waves for Water site for more information.
I will of course be visually including you in my time in Nepal via instagram, and will likely be resurrecting my old travel blog if you are interested in a more detailed account of the trip.
Thank you ahead of time for any support you can offer.
Love you all,
