Educate children living In India
Organized by: Helping peoples foundation
This campaign is to educate and support children who live on the streets in India. They are originally from Thakuti (Zila: Ajmer, India) 20 kms from Naseerabad. These children are 3-10 years old, travel for 300 days a year with their parents who participate in fairs in different parts of India. There is no electricity in their camps and they have no access to a school. As a Professor in a university in Los Angeles,CA, I am deeply moved by what I saw. These kids live with their families in tents and don't have proper clothes, shoes, socks. I spent four hours with them in Udaipur (Rajasthan) where their families participated in a fair today (August 17, 2015) and I was able to stream my experience on Periscope. The parents of these kids have named them Shahrukh Khan, Altaf Khan, Garima, Bhuri and Arbaz Khan(all stars in Bollywood cinema). They were very excited to see a teacher in their tent. I asked them "Are you happy, what do you want to say to the rest of the world?" --- Their response was "thank you" and I asked them "are you okay living without power?" They pointed to the street lamp and said "LIGHT". These students travel throughout the year making it impossible to enroll in a school. They want to learn about the world, they want to read and write. We are hoping to generate funds so that we can support their basic needs and provide them elementary education. Thank you for your support.
