Do you remember ever sitting in the back of the classroom, leaning forward and into the aisle trying to see what your teacher was writing on the board? You were likely distracted - it takes effort to pay so much attention! - and then you missed the popcorn question your teacher asked you. Woops. All of a sudden you were in trouble, all because you were trying so hard to pay attention. Luckily for you, that probably only happened a couple times in school, but this is what life is like everyday for millions of young students who struggle to see because they don't have access to a pair of eyeglasses. Those of us at Education In Sight don't think this is fair, and you shouldn't either!
A pair of glasses costs less than $30, but over 3.5 million children living below the federal poverty line don't have a pair on their cute little faces. Why? Because getting a vision prescription means going to the optometrist and going to the optometrist means getting to the optometrist and paying for that appointment. So many families just don't have the ability to get the care they need, but Education In Sight wants to help, and we hope you do too.
A donation to Education In Sight helps us bring licensed optometrists into schools to perform high quality, comprehensive eye exams to students in need. If a student needs a pair of glasses, Education In Sight takes their prescription and helps them pick out a pair of awesome, kid-friendly (aka almost unbreakable) pair of glasses, that is delivered to them completely free of cost. With a simple process, kids get the gift of sight and classroom achievement skyrockets.
We can't do this without you. Your donation goes directly toward a pair of glasses and the educational materials that help students understand why good vision is important. A donate of just $30 helps us get a pair of glasses on one kid's face and we really hope you'll join us in our mission to help 5,000 students this year. This is a team efforst and with your help, #togetherwesee.
