Edgerley-Franklin Spring Break Service Trip
Team Member: Yubisela Toledo
EVENT DATE Mar 14, 2015
I hope you are doing well! As most of you might know, I am currently a sophomore studying Biology/Pre-optometry at Kansas State University. I absolutely love everything about K-state, especially the family atmosphere and service involvement. I am currently involved in various activities at K-state such as research, multicultural organizations, and scholar groups. Organizations that have impacted me the most have been Soaring with Eagles and the Edgerley-Franklin Scholars program.
As an Edgerley-Franklin Scholar I have learned the values that uphold our home, school, and community. Values such as passion, service, education, and leadership. Through this program I have participated in many activities that have impacted multiple communities through the Boys and Girls Club, AVID, and 4-H groups. This spring we will be participating with the Boys and Girls Club from Boston, Massachusetts. I am eager to work with the urban community in order to promote youth development and leadership. Furthermore, your financial support will assist our group in this wonderful experience. Thank you for your help and support—we truly appreciate it!
Edgerley-Franklin Urban Leadership Scholars wrote -
The Edgerley-Franklin Urban Leadership group is supported by both the Edgerley and Franklin families to promote future engagement with the challenges facing urban communities and families. The Urban Leadership Scholars Program seeks to shape the next generation of great American urban leaders. Urban Leadership Scholars will have the knowledge to make sound judgments, the character to flourish under the pressures of leadership, and the vision to bring new solutions to our nation's most pressing urban needs. They will influence and inspire future generations to value education, hard work, and achieve academic and career success.
Over Spring break they will be traveling to Boston, Massachusetts for an educational, service trip focusing on the importance of youth development in urban communities. This trip will allow them to actively engage with a community in need and live out their mission of service as they work with the Boys & Girls Club of Boston. They will have the opportunity to interact directly with youth as mentors and tutors providing career guidance and college preparation support. In addition, they will have the opportunity to learn about the operations of one of the most successful Boys & Girls Clubs in the country and the impact such programs have on urban youth. Your financial contribution for this trip will help the scholars to share in this priceless experience. Thank you very much for your consideration.
