THE STORY:

The mission of the Woodlawn Run for a Cause is to raise awareness and funds for a variety of causes in the Bronx and Yonkers, while encouraging good physical health. The organization’s goal will be to identify persons in need in the community and to contribute to their mission and well-being. The Woodlawn Run for a Cause will encourage members to run and to participate in physical activity to raise funds for organizations in need. The Woodlawn Run for a Cause will encourage its members to volunteer at local organizations and to raise money for charitable causes through exercise, running and walking. All funds raised by the Woodlawn Run for a Cause will be returned to the community in the form of donations to local charities, enabling local residents to raise awareness and funds for charitable organizations in their area while staying in shape.

Over the last seven years, the Woodlawn Run for a Cause has had nearly 1,500 people complete the 3.1 mile course. More importantly, more than $64,000 has been raised for the following charities: Mercy Center, Peace Outside Campus, Families of Freedom Scholarship Fund, Children's Hospital at Montefiore Medical Center, Compassionate Care Hospice, Part of the Solution, Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, Calvary Hospital, Bronx Community Health Network, Friends of Van Cortlandt Park and Pulmonary Fibrosis Foundation.

This year's race will be held on September 20, and proceeds will be donated to the National Brain Tumor Society and the Kalie Gill Family Foundation.
