BENEFITING: Central Puget Sound Council of Camp Fire
Elaine Matthews, my mom, died February 22, 2013 after a short battle with Pancreatic Cancer. Her teenage years were shaped by her membership in Camp Fire Girls (now simply called Camp Fire). As a teen she would save all of her babysitting money to attend summer camp at Camp Sealth on Vashon Island, Washington, in the middle of the Puget Sound. She continued to attend camp each year until she became an adult. When I was a young girl she started a Blue Bird group and as I grew up she became my Camp Fire leader. She volunteered many hours as a leader and was known as Miss Birdie at Day Camp when I was a girl. She felt such a profound impact due to Camp Fire that when she died, she chose to have her ashes scattered at a high point at Camp Sealth. I would like to honor her memory by sponsoring two teen campers to a session at Camp Sealth.
