Elephants to Sanctuary
Organized by: Lauren Holman
Made it to Brazil! I've been here for a week so far. Thanks for helping make it happen! The crates and elephant care center are coming along. In just a few weeks we will go get Maia and Guida and bring them home to Sanctuary!

Elephants have always held a big piece of my heart. I have an opportunity to be part of a team who is rescuing elephants from a life time of abuse and moving them to Sanctuary.
My first oportunity to serve elephants came when I learned of The Elephant Sanctuary in Tennessee, I knew I would go there and dedicate a chapter of my life to the elephants who lived there. I was mentored by Scott Blais (one of the founders of The Elephant Sanctuary in Tennessee) and his partner Kat. Currently they are in the midst of establishing the Global Sanctuary for Elephants; Elephant Sanctuary Brazil where the first barn is near completion. It is time to get the first residents moved to Elephant Sanctuary Brazil. They are Maia and Guida, who currently live in Southern Brazil after 40+ years of performing in the circus. The Sanctuary will give them the opportunity to relax and discover their true selves.
Last September I was honored to be hired by Global Sanctuary for Elephants to care for and consult for Ramba for six months. She is another ex-circus elephant who is currently living in Chile, also awaiting her trip to Sanctuary. With this website I hope to raise the funds for my visa, plane tickets and living expenses for a several month stint in Brazil to assist with Maia and Guida's transport and their initial settling into Sanctuary. Hopefully, there will be enough money to help with Ramba too. Moving elephants and creating Sanctuary is a huge undertaking. By raising these funds, I will be able to assist the founders of GSE to make Sanctuary a reality for captive elephants in South America.
