Elevate NY is sponsoring Talia as she runs the Nike Women Run DC Half Marathon. The Nike Women Run DC Half Marathon will take place on April 28th in Washington, DC. Your support for Talia as runs this race will help Elevate NY implement this successful program throughout the NYC school system; improving lives and increasing graduation rates.
Elevate is an accredited high-school elective program, and builds long-term and life-changing relationships with urban youth in New York City. Elevate New York provides an alternative to the many students that have fallen through the cracks, by improving the lives of New York City students in tangible and concrete ways.
Elevate New York incorporates 13 vital character qualities and life skills into our daily classroom curriculum. Through a variety of writing exercises, reading materials, and group discussions. The principles and skills are designed with the intent to develop and promote key skills needed for success. Increasing school attendance, improving academic test scores, teaching critical skills and giving hope for the future.
Elevate New York successfully worked with more than 300 students in the South Bronx from 3 Public Schools in 3 years.
85% of Elevate seniors graduated from high school (Compared to a 65% average among non-Elevate students - WABC News Report, “New York City Graduation Rates Class of 2011 (2007 Cohort).” NYC Department of Education (June 2012): 2-9. Source).
Elevate has accomplished all of this with 1 full-time staff, periodic part-time staff and several volunteers. The Colorado UpLift model is designed to be effective, as a team teaching model. Thus, Elevate New York has been a pilot program, to date.
A third-party study demonstrated that kids in programs like Elevate attend school 41% more days than their non-mentoring program peers.
Any help you can provide is greatly appreciated whether it be encouragment, donation, or spreading the word! A HUGE THANK YOU TO EVERYONE!
